What we do · Single rooms

Bathrooms, kitchens & outdoor living.Sydney bathroom and kitchen renovations from $19,800 — by a licensed builder

Why use a builder for one room

The room that leaks is the room that was rushed.

A bathroom is the most technical small space in a house. Behind the tiles are falls, waste lines, membranes and junctions that have to be right the first time — because the only way to check them later is to demolish the room.

We do remedial waterproofing for a living: opening up showers that failed and finding out why. That work shapes how we build a new one. You are not paying for a tiler and a plumber who happened to be available in the same week — you are paying for a licensed builder who carries the warranty and has seen what the cheap version costs two years later.

What it costs

Real starting prices, published.

Most Sydney builders will not put a number on a website. Here are ours, so you can work out in thirty seconds whether we are in your range.

Bathroom · build only

From $19,800

Full strip-out and rebuild: demolition, waterproofing to AS 3740, screeding, tiling, all trades and rubbish removal. Excludes fittings and tapware — you buy them, we install them.

$25,000

The same build with fittings included — vanity, toilet, shower set, tapware and tiles from a selected range. One number, no shopping list.

Bathroom · premium package

$50,000+

What moves it

Why quotes differ

Relocating the toilet or shower, cutting a slab, upper-floor access, structural changes, and tile format all shift the figure. We tell you which of these applies before you commit.

Single rooms · Bathrooms

Bathrooms built to last the mortgage.

From $19,800, waterproofed to code.

Main bathrooms, ensuites and powder rooms — stripped back to the frame, re-serviced, waterproofed and finished. Every bathroom we build is covered by the NSW statutory warranty, six years on major defects.

  • Full strip-out, re-plumb and re-wire as required
  • Waterproofing to AS 3740 with correct falls and junction detailing
  • Floor-to-ceiling tiling, stone or terrazzo, frameless glass
  • Custom or off-the-shelf vanities, wall-hung or floor-standing
  • Heated floors, niche shelving, integrated and backlit lighting
  • Bathrooms in apartments, including strata approval and by-law requirements

Single rooms · Kitchens

Kitchens, without the whole-house project.

New joinery, stone and services in one room.

A kitchen can be replaced on its own. Where it gets interesting is when the wall between the kitchen and the living room wants to come out — that is a structural job, and it is the reason to use a builder rather than a joinery showroom.

  • Custom and semi-custom joinery, shaker or handleless
  • Stone and stone-look benchtops, waterfall ends, full-height splashbacks
  • Appliance integration, rangehood ducting, new power and gas points
  • Removing walls under an engineered beam to open the plan
  • Butler's pantries and laundry joinery in the same run of works

Single rooms · Laundries

Laundries that earn their floor space.

Usually the cheapest room to transform.

Laundries are the most under-built room in most Sydney houses — and the least expensive to fix properly. Bench space, a real sink, cupboards that fit the machines, and tiling that can be hosed down.

  • Stone benchtops over front-loaders, with drying space
  • Overhead and full-height storage, drying rails, chutes
  • Correct waterproofing and floor waste — a laundry is a wet area too
  • Often combined with a bathroom or powder-room job to share trades and save cost

Single rooms · Outdoor living

Decks, pergolas & alfresco.

The cheapest square metres you will ever add.

Covered outdoor space is the least expensive way to make a Sydney house feel bigger — no walls, no internal services, and usable most of the year. Often it is a Complying Development approval rather than a full DA.

  • Timber and composite decks, at ground level or elevated with balustrades
  • Pergolas and roofed alfresco, insulated or flat-roof, with downlights and fans
  • Tiled outdoor floors, drainage and step-downs from the house
  • Structural certification and approvals handled
  • Waterproofing where the new roof ties into the existing house — the joint that leaks if it is done wrong

Single-room questions

How much does a bathroom renovation cost in Sydney?

Our bathroom renovations start at $19,800 excluding fittings and tapware. A complete entry package including fittings is $25,000, and a premium bathroom with custom joinery, stone and feature tiling runs to $50,000+. The price moves with the size of the room, whether plumbing is relocated, and the finishes you choose.

Why does moving the toilet or shower cost more?

Relocating a wet point means opening the floor, re-routing waste and water, and in some cases changing floor levels or falls. On a slab it can mean cutting concrete. Keeping fixtures roughly where they are is the single biggest saving available on a bathroom budget.

Do you take on a single bathroom or kitchen, or only whole-home projects?

Yes — single rooms are welcome. R&Q Interiors takes on individual bathrooms, kitchens, laundries, decks and pergolas as well as whole-home renovations and extensions. Same licence, same contract, same waterproofing standard.

What does the waterproofing warranty cover?

Waterproofing in a NSW bathroom is covered by the statutory warranty under home building law — 6 years for major defects. We also do remedial work on other builders’ failed waterproofing, so the way we detail a shower is shaped by what we have seen go wrong in other people’s jobs.

How long does a bathroom renovation take?

A straightforward bathroom is typically three to five weeks on site once materials are on hand, including the waterproofing cure times that cannot be rushed. Tile and fixture lead times, not the build, are usually what set the start date.
