Who we are

A builder defined by care, clarity and craft.Licensed Sydney residential builder — renovations, extensions and new homes

Our approach

Two sides of the trade, in one company.

R&Q Interiors is family-run — a father and son who came into building from different directions, and started the company together in 2017.

One brings over twenty years of commercial fit-out and refurbishment work, much of it subcontracting to large construction companies. Those sites run to tight programmes and get checked hard, and that is where the habits come from: sequence the work, document it, hand it over on time.

The other is a trade-qualified residential carpenter who worked up from apprentice to project manager under an award-winning Sydney builder — the side of the trade where the finish is the thing someone lives with every day, and the job runs inside an occupied home rather than behind hoarding.

We run our own crew and work from a subcontractor network built over years, so the trades on your job are people we have worked with before — not whoever was free that week.

We work closely with homeowners, architects, designers and consultants to protect the design intent while delivering spaces that perform and last.

Our specialty

We take on the work that is harder to price and harder to build.

A new home on a clear site is a known quantity. A renovation or an extension is not. You are building around an existing structure, existing services and often a family still living there — and some of what you are dealing with only reveals itself once a wall is open. There are more ways for it to go wrong, and not every builder is willing to take it on.

That is precisely the work we specialise in: renovations, alterations and extensions, where the difficulty is in the join between what is there and what is new. We also build knockdown-rebuilds and new homes for the projects where a renovation no longer stacks up.

What matters to us

Four principles guide every project.

01

Communication

Clear decisions, regular updates and no avoidable surprises.

02

Planning

Thorough preparation before work begins and disciplined management throughout.

03

Craft

Careful execution and a high standard of finish in every detail.

04

Accountability

Ownership of outcomes, from concept through to handover.

How we work

A clear path from first call to handover.

Most building stress comes from not knowing what happens next. These are the six stages every R&Q Interiors project moves through, so you always know where you stand, what you need to decide, and roughly how long it takes.

01

Initial consult & feasibility

We talk through your goals, your site and a realistic budget, and give an honest view of what is achievable. You share your ideas, plans or inspiration; we visit the site where it helps.

Typical: about 1 week · Cost: no charge

02

Preliminary estimate

A ballpark cost range and outline scope so you can plan with confidence before investing in full design. No surprises later — this is where we check the project and the budget line up.

Typical: 1–2 weeks

03

Design & approvals

We coordinate architects, engineers and certifiers, and manage council DA or CDC approvals alongside your consultants. You approve the design; we handle the documentation and the paperwork.

Typical: 6–12 weeks, depending on the approval pathway

04

Detailed quote & contract

Fixed-scope pricing and a plain-English building contract, with a set programme, clear inclusions and defined payment stages. You know the price and the timeline before a tool is picked up.

Typical: 1–2 weeks

05

Construction & weekly updates

Licensed trades, tight quality control and a weekly progress update. Variations, if any, are quoted and approved in writing before work proceeds — no creeping costs.

Typical: varies with scope · weekly updates throughout

06

Handover, defects & warranty

A final walkthrough, any defects rectified, and your home handed over with the paperwork you need. Backed by statutory warranty under NSW home building law — 6 years for major (structural) defects and 2 years for other work.

Typical: defects period follows handover

Credentials & assurance

Licensed, accountable and covered.

R&Q Interiors (R & Q Pty Ltd) has been building in Sydney since 2017 and holds NSW Builder Licence 378767C — ABN 99 620 764 829. Every project is delivered under a written building contract with a fixed scope and defined payment stages.

We are a member of the Housing Industry Association (HIA), Australia's peak residential building body.

Every project over $20,000 (including GST) carries insurance under the NSW Home Building Compensation Fund (HBCF), taken out before work starts and before we accept any money from you — including the deposit. That cover exists to protect you, not us: it compensates the homeowner for incomplete or defective work if a builder dies, disappears, becomes insolvent, or has their licence suspended for failing to comply with a money order.

Your work is also backed by the statutory warranty under NSW home building law — 6 years for major (structural) defects and 2 years for other work — with a defects-liability period following handover.
